Single Path leads the way for Chicago grade school’s technology

Great Lakes Academy is a new charter school on Chicago’s southeast side, opened in August 2014 to educate underserviced, lower income students grades K-8. With no technology experience, Director of Operations Krystle Kim turned to Single Path for guidance and expertise.

“They were very valuable to us,” Kim relates. “We didn’t have dedicated in-house technology expertise. I had to feel my way through it – I’d never done anything like this with technology, and I knew I needed an expert.”

A colleague at another area school had referred Single Path to Krystle, and she had a sense from the beginning that she selected the right partner. “I told Single Path how many kindergarten and first grade students we had, and asked, what should we do?” From their extensive experience with school district customers, Single Path was up to the task.

The challenge was to coordinate the design and installation of the new school’s technology systems with the overall construction project required to get the facility ready to start the school season on time. Single Path not only met the deadline, but even helped Kim implement interim solutions when other subcontractors fell behind schedule on their ends of the project. “Students and staff didn’t even know this had happened,” she reports. “Single Path helped me deal with issues that were otherwise out of my control. They were a true partner, helping me problem solve through challenges.”
